ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP ANNOUNCEMENT {APPLICATION ATTACHED}
Each year, Pioneer Valley AFL-CIO awards up to six $500 college scholarships to children of active members of unions affiliated with the Central Labor Council.
This year, instead of participating in the Massachusetts AFL-CIO Scholarship Program, we are conducting the program “in house” with two local judges. They will not see the names of the applicants or their union connections. They will judge the applicants primarily on a 500 or more word essay entitled “The importance of unions today and their impact on my family”, and secondarily on their high school transcript and school and community activities.
We use the Family and Medical Leave Act definition of “child” – any high school senior whom a PVAFLCIO Union Member takes care of like a parent (stands in loco parentis) is eligible. We consider that Union Member the parent. Please call with any questions.
The application must be signed by a union-member parent and that parent’s union official, as well as the applicant.
Applicants must send the application and all supporting materials, postmarked by April 2, to PVAFLCIO Scholarship at the address below.
Please announce and post and circulate this announcement and application form and encourage all eligible students to apply!
